CONTINUOUS ARM CHAIR
The Efrog Newydd
It's always fascinated me that this elegant style of Windsor evolved from early Celtic chairs.
Over time, it is thought that village wheelwrights influenced the design as they would form the spindles and legs using the same techniques as they used to make wheel spokes.
The Windsor chair design was refined by the English chair makers in High Wycombe, England. These skills and designs were exported to the American colonies with the early settlers and the first Continuous Arm Windsor was built by an unknown chair maker in 18th century New York.
This was the chair style that grabbed my attention many yeas ago through its combination of beauty and fine engineering. It's technically challenging to build, using a combination of woods, and in my eyes, a wonderful example of form meeting function
