WELSH BACK STOOL
The Mary Jones
Mary Jones lived in the village very close to my workshop. In 1799, at the age of fifteen, she walked 26 miles barefoot from Llanfihangel-y-Pennant to Bala to buy a copy of the Welsh Bible from a well-known preacher. By doing so Mary helped inspire the founding of the British and Foreign Bible Society which gave birth to a worldwide Bible movement.
This type of stool was commonly used in peasant households during the 1800's and is my tribute to her.
The back stool is smaller than a standard chair but bigger than a milking stool making a wonderful child's seat but still suitable for an adult.
