TheCraft

I typically make my chairs starting with freshly cut oak or ash as well as a two inch thick slab of Beech, Elm or Layland Cyprus. Each chair part is split out of the log by hand using wedges and a sledge hammer or slabbed using a chain saw. These parts are then shaped with a band saw and hand tools or turned into round parts such as legs and stretchers on my lathe.

Some parts such as the arm rail on this chair are placed in a steam box for up to an hour and then bent on a form and placed above the AGA to dry and set the bent.

Great care is taken in regards to the joinery of every chair that I make. Parts are fitted and assembled only after spending a week next to the old cooking range so as to be perfectly dried. This ensures that the parts will swell slightly as they absorb moisture from the air resulting in a very tight joint. Traditional hide glue is also used in every joint before wedges are driven into the ends of all through tenons making the best joint possible.

Chairs can be left unfinished, stained, oiled and waxed, or can be finished with Milk Paint depending on which finish type you request.

My intention is to build a chair that will provide you with comfort and add beauty to your home until the day that you decide to pass it down to the next generation.

Y Grefft

Fel arfer, rwy'n gwneud y cadeiriau hyn yn dechrau gyda derw neu onnen sydd wedi torri'n ffres yn ogystal â slab deuedd o fodfedd o Feech, Elm neu Layland Cyprus. Mae rhan pob cadeirydd yn cael ei rannu allan o'r log â llaw gan ddefnyddio lletemau a morthwyl sledge neu slabbed gan ddefnyddio llif gadwyn. Yna, caiff y rhannau hyn eu siâp gyda gweled band ac offer llaw neu eu troi'n rhannau crwn megis coesau a thaenau ar fy nhn.

Rhoddir rhai rhannau megis y rheilffordd fraich ar y cadeirydd hwn mewn blwch stêm am hyd at awr ac wedyn eu plygu ar ffurf a'u gosod uwchben fy AGA i sychu.

Cymerir gofal mawr o ran saeryddiaeth pob cadeirydd a wneuthum. Caiff y rhannau eu gosod a'u cydosod yn unig ar ôl treulio wythnos nesaf i'r AGA er mwyn bod yn gwbl sych. Mae hyn yn sicrhau y bydd y rhannau'n chwyddo ychydig wrth iddynt amsugno lleithder o'r aer gan arwain at gyd-dynn iawn. Mae glud cudd traddodiadol hefyd yn cael ei ddefnyddio ym mhob cyd cyn i'r ffosau gael eu gyrru i bennau'r cyfan trwy ddwynau sy'n gwneud y gorau ar y cyd bosibl.

Gellir gadael cadeiryddion heb eu gorffen, eu staenio, eu hoelio a'u cwyru, neu gellir eu gorffen gyda Milk Paint yn dibynnu ar ba fath o orffen y byddwch yn gofyn amdano.

Fy mwriad yw adeiladu cadair a fydd yn rhoi cysur i chi ac yn ychwanegu harddwch i'ch cartref tan y diwrnod y byddwch chi'n penderfynu ei drosglwyddo i'r genhedlaeth nesaf.
